just her words in chapter 9. i think that catherine was truly in love with him but heathcliffe was the true pscycho who made their thing (love/obsession or both) abusive. this with the combination that catherine choode edgar create this whole chaos...

Of course Heathcliff because Catherine preferred to go with what others wanted and expected of her, instead of going the way she wanted, and the worst is that she sacrifice the happiness of herself, along with Heathcliff.
