We've talked about the big issues people have with the books, I thought it would be fun to see what little things people were annoyed by, or found silly.
I think this would be easier for Twilight fans to join in with too, since it's easier to laugh at little things wrong with something you like than to talk about big issues in it, and I think a lot of fans may have noticed things like this, but may not have been able to laugh at them with fellow fans on their spots because of the "I keel you for insulting Twilight" mentality.
Add anything, but remember it's just little things, nothing heavy like the way women are portrayed etc.

As someone who didn't like Twilight at all I had about 1000 'are you kidding?' moments, but I'm still a little confused about the 'vegetarians' who eat things like deer. Stephanie Meyer does know where the 'veg' from vegetarians comes from, right?

Also Bella proclaims that she's never had a boyfriend and seems to have no regular friends either because as far as I recall she never contacts anyone in Arizona after she leaves it. But as soon as she moves to Washington she becomes instantly popular(through no merits of her own- just the fact that she's new) and all the boys want to go out with her. Even the highly eligible local vampire bachelor can't resist her fragrant charms. *rolls eyes*
And what's more is that in spite of having never experienced this kind of attention before Bella doesn't seem at all flattered by it or even remotely interested in giving one of these nice, normal boys a chance. She only has eyes for the unattainable, snobby, inexplicably moody, impossibly gorgeous, disgustingly rich, elitist vampire guy who thinks she smells good enough to eat. Literally.

Yeah, you know, by Edward's logic I should be married to a cake. Boy, do cakes smell good. I think I'll go tell one to stay away from me for it's own good. Then stare at it a while. Then tell it I love it. Then ship it to another state. Then bring it home and eat it.

Okay, I like Twilight, but I am not a fanatic. I used to be joined on the twilight spot, but the fanatics were annoying so I no longer am.
Stephanie Meyers refrences to vegatarians pissed me off a bit. I am vegatarian. One of her lines especially did. It was about "Living on animal blood is the same as a vegatarian living on tofu. It fills you up, but your never fully satisfied."
That line made me so pissed off!!!
Overall, I just find all her vegatarian comparisons ridiculous.

Let's be depressed and suffer through what most people call the worst time of someone's life. I hate high school. I would have to be nuts (or a crazy "vegetarian vampire) to want to do that.

And Stephenie Meyer can't try and convince readers by saying that the younger they start out, the longer they can stay there. HELLO! They are vampires for crying out loud. They can't just hide somewhere? It is completely ridiculous.

And it is not the same, the point of an effing vegetarian is to refrain from eating animals! (And other people. Cannibalism is a no-no, especially if you are a vegetarian.)

But I was thinking maybe the fact that SM was so incredibly lazy that she couldn't pick an original name for Bella and Edward's baby and decided to just mix together the names of characters she already had should be on this list....

especially the Vegentarian Vampire thing, it's like...a vegetarian shark that eats other fish but not humans.

It's not that I have a problem with someone coming up with their own myths, because I don't, in fact, I praise someone for that. What I do have a problem with is creatures that are supposed to be scary, yes the vampires in Twilight are supposed to be scary, are sparkling. I mean, if the Twilight vampires are soo vicious, why would they sparkle? And for those of you who have seen the movie, Edward acting as if he is a monster because he sparkles... I don't know about you but I don't find that scary.

I'll never get used to the sparkling thing :/

I know that if I personally was immortal with powers and crap I would try to help people (and not by becoming a doctor). Why not go and become like a real superhero who saves people and catches criminals or something. And I know someone is going to sat Edward tried this when what Edward actually did was go and kill people he thought deserved to die which is more vigilante than what I was talking about.

Also Bella's a typical girl, but EVERYONE is in love with her, despite her not seeming to have any friends from her previous school, nor has she ever had a boyfriend.
The Cullen's go to high school. If I were immortal I would not go back to school. I think you'd be pushed to find anyone who would.

Edward and Bella have pretty much nothing in common, and I'm not really sure they're in love. The fact that he's a bit of a looker and sparkles and she has nice blood is essentially the basis of their entire relationship. That's it.

Did some people not catch the plain-as-day play on words? It was made clear as day that they don't literally consider animals to be vegetables and it was only a joke of theirs.

The fly one was me messing up. I meant his quick-speedy power but got mixed up when writing the question. I actually noticed the mistake right away, but when I tried to edit it was too late. Since it didn't seem to be bothering people I hoped people picking that one just noticed my mistake and were meaning his actual power, not flight, when picking. That was me being dopey :)

As for them joking about vegetarianism, this pick is just a jokey one too. Obviously I am aware Edward does not literally think deer is a vegetable. This isn't about errors in the series or from the characters, just about little things some found silly (and I do have a vegetarian friend who liked Twilight, who was bugged by characters who hunt/kill deer for food being labeled vegetarian, even humorously, what with that directly opposing her vegetarian beliefs. It's not an error, but it is something some found silly or annoying, so fits the pick)

I had to choose one so I could ask a quick question: You know they don't actually think they're vegetarians, right? ^_^; I assume you understand that they were alluding to the idea that humans are to animals for vampires as animals are to vegetables for humans?

My comment directly above yours already explains that, yes I am aware the vegetarian comment is a joke in the series, this pick is jokey too, and that I also knew a vegetarian Twilight fan who was still somewhat annoyed/offended by it, since as a vegetarian she is against the hunting/killing of animals for food, and she did not like characters who do so being labeled with the term even humorously, or the comparison of animals to vegetables. This pick is for things like that, silly little pet peeves people had, not for errors in the series.

About the picture you dislike, I did not add that option, it was added later by another user (their username appears beneath the option they added) so you would have to ask them if you would like to know where the image came from. Personally, though not a fan of the series, I agree the wording is harsher than I would have chosen.

Also, just so you know, you don't have to pick an option you disagree with to access or add comments to a pick. Underneath the options before you pick, on the bottom right, there is a link that says 'view results', it will take you to the comments without you having to pick. I also put the allow other fans to add option on, so you could add your own view, whether it's any little thing you found silly to add to the pick or even an option saying you have no pet peeves from the series :)

The thing that annoys me the most about the concept of the books is not even the cheesiness - although it adds to my distaste for SM writing style - or the fact that it's quite lame that her vampires are vegetarians and double lame that they are considered as such although they kill and feed from animals but the fact that vampires, immortal powerful creatures don't find anything else to do with their life and their time other than going back to high school. Sorry, SM, you can convince me that they are "good" enough to not kill people or whatever but you cannot convince me that anyone would want to waste the gift of immortality on going to school.

^ Enjoying studing is really a good thing, but I don't think it is very productive - nor do I think it would be even interesting in the first place - to repeat school classes over and over again with the same material you already learnt. This adds nothing to learning more about the world and to educating yourself. Wouldn't it be more productive to travel the world or at least attend multiple universities?

They aren't learning anything new to them, they aren't socializing with their fellow students, so what kind of enjoyment is high school offering them?

Well yeah... The Cullens didn't attend the same exact high school over and over again. They went to different high schools and universities and studies different subjects, just like you suggested.
They just started out in high school each time for show, so they could stay in one place longer.

I also think you can learn the subject taught just as well without sitting with people at lunch

^High schools only offer so many different subjects and several of them are part of the required curriculum [ie: English, Algebra etc]. They would inevitably be repeating subjects ad nauseum. If they were interested in actually learning they'd do better to attend college or pursue independent studies. If they are using high school to blend in then it would be more effective if they socialized with other students, instead of drawing attention to themselves by setting themselves apart. As it is, their integration into the community is practically nil. They probably could've achieved the same level of integration by pretending they were being home schooled.

They do attend college... They've all been to college multiple times. They all have multiple degrees.

They don't go to high school to blend in, they go to high school so they can stay on one location longer.
It wouldn't make much sense for them to make best friends, and then never hug or even shake their hand. never invite them over to their house. Never out out with them, due to the chance that the sun might come out. Them hanging around people would make it much more easy for people to notice that they don't eat.

It really does make a lot more sense for them to not hang around peers and not make friends. If they're standoffish, people will just leave them alone.

^I had forgotten that they also did attend college. However, I still maintain that repeating high school doesn't make much sense. The points you make are good ones. It would be difficult to create friendships, even superficial ones, and maintain their secrecy. Which makes it even more ridiculous to attend high school. Why do that if, like you said, their goal isn't to blend in but just to stay in one location [although I think that the first is the means to the second]. Like I said, it would be easy enough to pretend that they were being home schooled. Then you don't have to even worry about social contact with humans. You'd have a completely legitimate reason to be totally disconnected from the community.

Also, regardless if their motivations can be explained by a desire to remain together in one location, I still consider their decision to attend high school/pursue 'normal' lives dissatisfying. They have incredible powers and they have abstained from killing humans- yet they don't take the next step and use those powers to try to help humans. With great power comes great responsibility - Ben Parker. They could do so much more than what they have chosen to do. Yes, it would be difficult and there would be obstacles but seeing as how they've attended high school/college multiple times and earned several degrees, you'd think they could figure out a way to make it work. Yes, their comfortable existence would be disrupted and they would all be put at risk and have to make sacrifices. Those are the things that make a character a hero.

I'm pretty sure Carlisle was the only one with the burning passion to help people, and he's a doctor. He's doing exactly that. The rest are doing what they can to accomidate to his desires. The rest could do more, if they wanted to. But none of them have the same drive to help others that Carlisle does. It's his trait that carried over from his human life.

I entirely agree with it being much easier for them to pretend they are home schooled because this way they wouldn't have to attend classes and bore themselves with the same subjects they already learnt and know by heart and they wouldn't draw any attention to them by barely communicating with the rest of the students. Also none of them looks underaged, Edward for instance could have easily pretended to be over 18-21 and no one would have questioned why he doesn't go to school anymore. He and others (except Carlisle obviously, since he was a doctor and that's what he wanted and liked doing) could have easily made up a lie about working as freelancerst or whatever. There were so many opportunities and so many options and going to school seems imo like the stupidest one.

That is the only reason they go to high school. It's not to have fun or to learn. It's not to make friends. it's not to experience new things. Does it even matter if they're bored for 2-3 years? They are immortal being. Years pass like weeks. High school is not a tedious, long, and dragging event for them. It passes. AND, it's not as if high school is the only thing they get to do. It only lasts 7-8 hours a day. They have 24 hours to live their lives, and do things they enjoy. I don't see how it could possibly be a waste of time, since they are immortal and they have ALL the time in the world.

I don't think homeschooling would be too beneficial for them. How else are they supposed to practice resisting human blood if they aren't around humans all day? I guess they'd have more fun around people then staying inside the house all day, pretending to learn. You don't have to have a bunch of conversations with people in order to enjoy having them around.

(Esme has a job too, she's an architect)

All of the above are huge problems. Sparkling Vamp that goes to highschool over a hundred times falling in love with a teenage girl because of how she smells...yeah that's all pretty stupid.

@cassie, Again there may be some valid reasons for attending high school but in the end, as a plot device I find it dissatisfying. IMO it doesn't make for a very interesting story.
And what do the Cullens do with their time outside of school? I'm not talking about playing baseball on stormy days, I'm talking life-fulfilling pursuits that make their immortal, never ending lives worth living. Carlisle has a purpose, a reason to keep going and to not kill humans. What purpose have the other Cullens found? I just think the story would've been so much more interesting if the Cullens, as a whole, had more of a sense of purpose and more heroic tendencies.

Well, Alice enjoys shopping. It may not be "helpful" to the world, but a person can be satisfied without resolving global issues.
Edward has the hobby of collecting cars and music.
Emmet enjoys competitive sports.
Jasper enjoys academics.
Rosalie does mechanics and music as well.
Esme has her architecture.

I really do not care at all if they have heroic hobbies or not. It's irrelevant for the most part. Twilight is not a story of heroics, it's a story of self fulfillment and you can find self fulfillment in non heroic actions. The entire story conveys the message that you should do what you want, and not what everyone thinks you "should" do. If Alice wants to spend her life shopping, then so be it. Shop all day long if it's what makes her the happiest. Carlisle is happy when he's helping people, that's great too.

It's not a story of people saving the world. They don't have to be heroic characters.
If it was, i doubt I would have liked it as much. I'm really tired of those stories.
