Which is better for college use? MacBook Pro or hp?????

I have had hp's in the past and I pag-ibig them, but now I see the new format hp is taking and I hate it. So I've been researching the MacBook Pro from mansanas and it seems to have a lot of positive feedback. But is it good for college use? Because this is when I would be using it. Or is hp the better one? I heard my mom once say that MacBook is not compatible with certain programs needed for college but I read some reviews and they say its the best so now I do not know. Could somebody please help me out... Thanks to anyone who responds.

I was never too familiar with HP but I used a MacBook Pro throughout college and it was great. But your mum brought up a good point in needing to make sure that, whatever you go with, make sure it's compatible with any software you know you'll need.

I got a new laptop earlier this taon (a PC though) and to decide which one to get, I checked the system requirements on all the software I wanted to put on it. For the madami questionable software (things that were infamous for not working on certain machines) I googled those separately to see if people had much luck running them on the laptops I'd been looking at.
