How did your age correspond with the ages of the characters in the books over the years?

There are several ways to look at this tanong and I want to hear about all of them! I'm very curious about everyone's experiences with this great story.

1. Here are the release dates for the books (in U.S. & U.K.) - were you ever the same age as the trio when the books came out?
I was 17 when Deathly Hallows came out in 2007 and the trio are supposed to be 17 in that book. Cool!

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone ( or Philosopher's) was June 30, 1997 (UK), September 1, 1998 (US).

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was July 2, 1998 (UK), June 2, 1999 (US).

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was July 8, 1999 (UK), September 8, 1999 (US).

Harry Potter and the Goblet of apoy was July 8, 2000 (US & UK).

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was June 21, 2003 (US & UK).

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was July 16, 2005 (US & UK).

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was July 21, 2007 (US & UK).

2. Are you actually the same age as the trio? They were born in 1980 - if so you were actually 11 in 1991 when the three started at Hogwarts!

3. Where you ever the same age as the characters while you were pagbaba the books?
I was slightly behind them in age when I read the books (until the seventh one!).

Anyway, I'm curious to hear what you have to say :]

I forgot to mention pelikula - but that's welcome too! Especially for younger fans who's ages don't correspond as well with the books!

In the books the boys were born in 1980 and Hermione was born in 1979.
The first movie came out in 2001, so is we go sa pamamagitan ng that petsa we can assume that the kids were born in 1989/1990.
I was born in December 1985.

I'm behind with the books, but I think I was usually the same with movies. I was in the same taon as them when most of them came out.

I got into the books when I was ten, the summer between grade 4 & grade 5. It was a few days after the 4th of July, we just got back from vacation & I was bored. sa pamamagitan ng the end of the segundo chapter, I was addicted & finished it that day.

I read the segundo one a few months later, & finished book 5 the same week I finished grade 5 :P

I finished the 7th book when I was twelve.



I've never been the age of the characters, they have always been ahead of me. I'm sixteen now, so in HP world I'd be in between 5th taon & 6th taon

Yeah, me too. As a kid, I didn't really care much about them, but then, one araw - bam! You read one and you're already addicted. I'm actually now the age of the movie characters, so that's nice too (17)

Well, I was technically never "as old as them," because we were born in different years ;)

I was eight, when the SS came out in America, nine, when CS and POA came out, ten when GoF came out, thirteen when OotP came out, fifteen when HBP came out, and seventeen when DH came out. I was only the same age they were in DH.

But, as elstef pointed out, the movies are a little different. I was eleven when SS came out (2001), twelve when CS came out (2002), fourteen when PoA came out (2004), seventeen when OotP came out (2007), nineteen when HBP came out (2009), twenty when DH1 came out (2010), and twenty-one (almost) when DH2 came out.

I consider myself to be rather in the Marauders' age group, about 10 years less though. The closest I am to in age are Bill Weasley, Charlie Weasley and Nymphadora Tonks. Early 70s. Which technically makes me an elder sister to the trio, Neville, Draco, Luna, etc.

As far as the pelikula are concerned, I was a bit ahead though. Severus just died in the movie at 38 while I'm older. I relate madami to the adults in the story.

I was almost 18 when the first book was released, going on 28 for the last, Chronologically I was always the same age as Hermione (going sa pamamagitan ng D.O.B. her birthday is 6 days before mine), so hypothetically speaking I would have been in the same school taon as the trio.

I don't want to do math-I suck at it. All I know is when the first book was released in 1998 I was 15 years old. And when DH was released I was 24 years old. I have no idea if me and any character were ever the same age?
