Underrated - Marine the Raccoon
She's about as hated as Big, whom I'm none too fond of. Marine, however, seems to have grown as a character over the course of Sonic Rush Adventure. She started as a rather bratty and egotistical companion who believed she was the one leading Sonic and Tails (and later Blaze) and eventually ends getting kidnapped, but near the end of the game, proves herself capable when she snatches the Jeweled Scepter from Captain Whisker before she was rescued. Had it not been for her, the Jeweled Scepter would have sunken to the bottom of the sea, possibly Nawawala forever. She shows signs of maturing, and even Blaze starts to acknowledge her. She also showed a mysterious power after the final boss fight that I believe deserves to be explained in a future title. Marine is to Blaze as Tails is to Sonic, and I believe she would make a great sidekick to Blaze if SEGA would bring her back, far better than SEGA's current habit of making something of a sidekick out of Blaze for Silver.
Honorable mentions to Blaze the Cat, who is much beloved sa pamamagitan ng the fanbase, but seems to have been ibingiay the shaft sa pamamagitan ng SEGA in favor of Silver the Hedgehog, and Knuckles the Echidna, who despite rounding off the three-man crew of Team Sonic and having a madami detailed backstory, has less than his share of fans. His character derailment into a dumb muscle character in kamakailan titles has not helped his cause.
Overrated - Shadow the Hedgehog
The most obvious choice. Shadow is a fine character in his own right, but the amount of fans (and fangirls) he has is completely disproportionate to his quality as a character. He did have a rather detailed and tragic backstory in Sonic Adventure 2, but over the years, he has become madami of a typical anti-hero. He's dark, he's cool, he's badass, and he doesn't give a shit, but how many other characters are there out there that possess those qualities? Let's just say quite a lot.
Honorable mention to Mephiles the Dark, whose hype seems mainly centered around the fact that he killed Sonic.
