Crimson blood speckled the wall. The air of a last scream was still etched in the breath of the murderer. Hands bloody and still clutching the kutsilyo the mysterious person walked away. A few hours later, another scream rented through the air. Again, the person screamed the same blood curdling sound. Tanya looked down upon the still face of her true love. Unable to tear her eyes of his limp body she sobbed and dropped to her knees unable to ilipat or speak. Drowsily she stumbles to his body and clutched his hand, tears pouring down from her startling blue eyes. Tanya lay down susunod to him and drifted into a deadly somber.
“Miss Tanya,” the maid beckoned, “Miss Tanya? You were
screaming in your sleep. Are you okay?” she sinabi again.
Tanya’s eyes flew open, and replied breathlessly, “Yes, Why? I I’m fine. Yeah I am absolutely fine.”
“I hardly believe you missus. You sounded terrified.” The maid edged.
“I’m fine.” Tanya repeated, “Stop bothering me about it.”
“Yes ma’am. Get into your clothes, they’re on the dresser, and come down for breakfast.” The maid ordered.
“Thank you Ellie. I will be down in a bit.” Tanya replied. As Ellie began to drift out of the room, Tanya mentions, “Are my mother and father here?” As soon as she had spoken the words Tanya already knew the answer, no they weren’t here. She could see it plain as araw on Ellie’s face. Ellie stood there like a statue obviously debating what to say. After a few moments she finally answered.
“No ma’am, they aren’t here. Your parents will be back in a few hours. No need to fret.” She sinabi with a reassuring smile.
“Thank you,” Tanya replied sullenly. After Ellie left she lay down on her kama and pondered over all the thoughts that had been whirling around in her head. Of course she remembered the important meeting her parents have this morning, so why in the world did she ask if they were home? She knew why, Tanya hoped madami than anything her mother would make something of her promise, the one she made years ago. The promise was where her mother would spend an entire araw with Tanya, no distractions. Maybe it would be a little while longer for her to fulfill her promise. She pushed that thought away it would only make her feel worse, so she thought of something else. She thought of the man in her dream, she did not even know him, yet seeing him lying there lifeless on the floor sent tremors through her very heart.
Who was the mysterious man who kept reoccurring in her dreams? But madami importantly who was the person standing over his lifeless form? Perhaps this man, the one who died was in danger? No, he couldn’t possibly be. What a silly thought. Tanya hadn’t even realized that she had gotten dressed and come downstairs while she was pondering over the contents of her dream.
“Miss Tanya?” Ellie said, interrupting Tanya’s thoughts. ”You seem rather distracted. Are you sick?”
“No… I’m fine, just didn’t sleep well that’s all.” Tanya said, hoping to lead Ellie off her case, “Nothing important enough to inform my parents about.” Weird dreams like this had been happening nearly every night, and the first few times Ellie told her parents immediately. Her mother and father kept giving Tanya queer looks for a long while after that. She was convinced they were going to send her to an asylum. True, after a while the frequent mutters and looks of concern ended and only showed up every once in a while when Ellie slipped up and told but it wasn’t nearly as bad as the first days.
Her father kept looking at her as if he was waiting for her to confess of something. What could possibly draw her father to give her such odd looks. She was so compelled to find out why she’d Nawawala herself these past weeks, searching every archive in her family’s history, seeking anything to help her see understanding. As she continued to seek her families past she found that there was none of it. Her entire family’s history was myths and fables. As if the only things her ancestors had saved over many years were the things that were not real in any way.
Now Tanya wanted nothing madami of her mother than the knowledge of her family. Who were they? Where there any dark and fore boding secrets in her family’s past? If there were, what were they? Perhaps her past is the link to the haunted look that lingers in her parents eyes from araw to day? Once again Tanya had realized she’d Nawawala herself in her thoughts again, eager to sumali the conversation and erase doubt from Ellie’s mind. But when she looked up from her pagkain the room was empty. Oh no! She thought, and raced across the kitchen, swiftly opening the door and bolting across the vast patio to Ellie who was hurrying away to her father’s study.
Terror washed over her, pushing her to ilipat her feet faster and faster. Ellie could NOT go in there! If she saw just a glimpse of the mess it had become Tanya secret would be out. With her breath caught in her throat she screamed at Ellie to stop. Not a segundo after the sound had escaped her lips did she realize what she’d done. Now Ellie would know for sure what was going on behind her father’s study’s locked door.
Ellie whirled around to see who was pursuing her, a frightful look in her eyes. It seemed that she was analyzing Tanya’s expression. Oh how she wished she hadn’t sinabi a peep. Gathering her composure, she walked pasulong to Ellie who seemed as if she would double over with shock. “Missus,” Ellie stuttered, “is something the matter?” Trying her best to act as her mother would Tanya replied in haughty tone, “Well, why is it that your running from me? What is it you are hiding Ellie?” She must have sounded like her mother, how frightful she must be at the moment, because Ellie nearly collapsed with a sob as reply.
Quick to reestablish they’re friendship Tanya dropped to her knees grasping one of Ellie’s hands in hers and lifting her friend’s chin up. Ellie’s eyes were watering around the edges, and full of understanding that Tanya could not grasp. Some how her childhood friend seemed so much older than she, and she had failed to notice her new found maturity.
With a gasp she exclaimed, “Oh Ellie! I’m soo very sorry! What ever have I done!?”

sa pamamagitan ng the fate
that follows
the land
on which
you're standing.
Dreams
are dead...
Fighting for
better days
now seems so
vainly,
everything went
wrong.
Dreams are
broken
in so many nights
that echo
along with
dust of past.
Put yourself
together
and hold on
to something
good,
you might survive,
you might escape
from the fate
that follows
the land
on which
you're standing.
Days are black
and cold,
nights spent
in despair
and thinking.
Your fate is
bounded to
the land
on which
you're standing.
