pagtatalo Tanong

Is pagtatalo Necessary

hi, okay i asked this tanong because ive read a few books and met a few people that aren't okay with debate, now i didn't purposefully go "looking" for books about debate, but little facts just get stuck in your head over time, figures :P

so, some popular opinions is that debates only cause the other person to hold madami strongly to their views

debates can break people's spirit if proven wrong

debates can lead in separating of people

there is no "winner" in a pagtatalo meaning people are the type not to let out on their beliefs easy, or meaning, even if you do "win" it's not really beneficial to anyone

there's only one thing that i have "for" pagtatalo which is that debates r fun ^ ^
and that's all that i have in favor of debating, sorry :\ oh wait wait, i think they're educational somewhat, so here goes

Pfft, no. Let's all stay in our caves with our deeply held notions unchallenged and unrefined while not offering others insight or getting insight from them.

the advantage of being stubborn is you don't worry about being wrong. But honestly you will have times when you are wrong but its ok.

Some people like to pagtatalo because it a learning experience on how to argue a point.

Some people like to pagtatalo because they want to educate people who are not as informed as they should be on an issue or point

Others, really just like talking about everything and everything so they use pagtatalo as a way to let out their opinions or review the opinion of others

Can you guess which on is me?

Debating IS fun and educational, yes!

'Debates only cause the other person to hold madami strongly to their views.'
This is not always the case; every pagtatalo is different and every pagtatalo has a different outcome. Besides, what's wrong with holding madami strongly to your views?

'Debates can break people's spirits, if proven wrong.'
I'm sure their spirits will heal. Mine always do. :P

'Debates can lead in separating of people.'
Actually, it's madami likely to be arguments that do that. Arguments are like debates, but... angrier.

'There is no "winner" in a debate, meaning people are the type not to let out on their beliefs easy, or meaning, even if you do "win", it's not really beneficial to anyone.'
Whether someone wins, or not, each person will have gained madami knowledge and madami things to consider. So, really, it's beneficial to everyone.

Some people don't like debates because they're far too easily offended. It's not good to be far too easily offended.

*nods* true on the last one, some people do get very easily offended, it's okay to hold strongly to your veiws if they're very important to you, but being open minded and accepting other veiws is also good

however if i am talking about something that will make me upset, like...say, someone is in favor of murder and cannibalism and i am against, if in the end they have madami points and they *win* it can be very upseting, you know what i mean, something that you believe strongly in and then someone else just hates
