It's a scary time when kids as young as FIVE years old are developing Type II diabetes from obesity- coupled with a sedentary lifestyle. Portion control is a HUGE issue- in the US as well as here in Canada. In Italy, when you eat pasta, it's often as a first or second course- a small sized portion meant to give you a taste of it- not two, whopping plate fulls that leave you lethargic and carb-heavy.
I still say it's more economical to cook at home- if you know how to shop (i.e. foregoing high end gourmet stores for all of your daily essentials- those are fun, but only once in a while to add some pizzaz to your pantry). I can make a pot of turkey chili loaded with fresh veg and have enough to freeze and take to work or have when I'm in a rush- and that beats a night out at Ruby Tuesdays any time in my books...
