“Hugh, I explained you exactly what happened last night. We did not halik at any point.” She lied.

Flashback

Lisa heard some mumbled noises, she slowly opened her eyes. Hugh wasn’t susunod to her anymore. She, agitated, sat up and paghahanap for Hugh’s figure in the room, he wasn’t there. She recognized a light though, it was coming out of the bedroom. She glanced at her night stand clock. It was 3:00 am. What was Hugh doing awake at 3 am? She stood up from kama and went to were the light was turned. It was coming from the hallway but when she reached the stairs she knew where Hugh.

The notes floated in the air, invading Lisa’s senses. She stumbled down the stairs where she found Hugh, as she had imagined, playing the piano.

“What are you doing awake?” Hugh jumped as her voice sound and turned away from the keys.

“I couldn’t sleep. I had to calm myself down.” Lisa nodded and sat susunod to him on the bench.

“Alright. So what are you playing?”

“Nothing special. Just notes that come up in my head.”

“You are composing?”

“Don’t think so. Nothing sounds good.” Lisa turned to look at the keys.

“I bet it does. May I hear it?” Hugh didn’t respond, he only placed his hands down at the piano. The music began lingering through the room and across Lisa’s ears. The piece was beautiful. Lisa hadn’t heard it before but it remind her from the time when Hugh had to umakda Cuddy’s serenade. She had sat susunod to him and he had looked at her and without looking at the piano the melody was created. It had been so perfect he remembered it without Pagsulat it down. The same was happening now, she wondered what was his inspiration now.

The notes became madami fluid, his inspiration growing. He wasn’t hesitating as much as he had done when he began playing. He looked up and Lisa and gave up with the melody.

“See? It is mediocre.” Lisa looked deep into his eye.

“It’s amazing. How can you say it’s not beautiful?”

“Because it’s nothing compared to my muse.” Lisa smiled at him but he didn’t return the smile. He just stared deeply at her. Lisa felt she needed to ask.

“How long have you been awake?”

“Since you fell asleep.” That had to mean he was still drunk.

“How are you feeling?”

“Less dizzy.” It was an honest respond. She noticed that he had dressed again.

“Well you should get back to sleep.” He traveled her creamy skin with his eyes. Then he went back to her face,.

“I want to keep playing.”

“You can do so in the morning.”

“But then my paraluman will be gone.” She took the indirect. She bent her head but Hugh lifted it up sa pamamagitan ng the chin with his hand. They exchanged looks and then he leaned in for the segundo time that night. They lips locked again and everything was much like the nakaraan kiss, except for one thing: Passion. It had grown in those couple of hours and as much as either Hugh or Lisa wanted to stop the kiss, they couldn’t. He grabbed her waist and with all his strength pushed her up till they were both standing in front of the piano. They stumbled their way up the stairs, lips never parting…

Lisa sat really quiet on the couch, Hugh was susunod to her.

“You gotta promise you won’t judge anything I will say from now on.” Lisa shook her head.

“I’m not sure how to explain it, but I …this… ‘Funny feeling’ is not anything good. I get it every time I get around this…person.” Lisa didn’t want to think about who that person was because she knew she hated her already. Getting her hopes up wouldn’t help either, she know how Hugh acted.

“And who’s that person?” Hugh shook his head since he wasn’t explaining himself very well.

“I don’t think you are getting me. I need to explain how I feel towards this feeling first. I hate it! Do you remember the time I explained to you why I cheated on my wife?” Lisa nodded her head, thinking he had done it again.

“Well, I feel disgusted for feeling like this. It’s not my usual self. I feel desperate. I feel like I am changing. “Lisa reached out for his hand and grabbed it. She knew what changes meant to Hugh.

“You know what changes do to me. They crumble me. I can’t go through that again. I have to stop this feeling.

“I thought that maybe last night if I got drunk I could forget that feeling. But I cannot, I woke up disturbed sa pamamagitan ng it.” Lisa was trying to understand what Hugh was telling her but she didn’t know what to tell him.

“And what’s so bad about it?”

“That this feeling is making me change! I cannot change!” Lisa looked at the living room, all the things from last night were still there. In the coffee mesa the wine bottle was sitting, waiting for Lisa to reach for it and play other rounds of Truth or Dare. She shrugged the thought out of her head.

“Why are you so close to changing?”

“Because it…it could make me…happy.” He hesitated at his answer. He knew that to most people would find it pathetic.

“And why can’t you take happiness?” Lisa asked for the thousandth time to Hugh. She had never understood why he was so afraid of changes.

“Because it means being in pag-ibig with another woman.” Lisa fell into silence. Hugh was being too direct today.

“Who’s that woman?” He didn’t know how to answer.
