tanong for any Americans/people who understand the American education system...

Is there something before Kindergarten? Because I was comparing the British and American school system and we have a taon before what Americans call Kindergarten called Reception. Do Americans have something similar?

Before Kindergarten is preschool. kids can start preschool at 3 years old. Usually they're in kindergarten at 5 years old.

As others said, there's headstart and preschool, but those are optional. I didn't go to preschool, but it's becoming madami and madami popular.
Is Reception mandatory or optional in Britain? Just curious, I'd never heard of it before.

Yes, Preschool or Pre-K is what it is called. It is pretty much learning the alphabet, colours, and numbers.

before kindergarten is pre school. It can be either be like an actual school, or in my case araw care. The daycare I went to had a pre school set up to it once you were out of the baby and toddler rooms. If you go to pre school that's generally one taon then you graduate up to kindergarten and actually start elementary school.

Why have school before school? To get extra smart or to put you somewhere while your parents are at work/etc? What is the point of it?

I think it's a mix of getting little kids used to socializing, give them a bit of a head start and, yes, as a form of babysitting while their parents are at work or school or something.
