If you do not believe in God, to whom are you thankful for?

The universe and our beautiful Earth, for nurturing life such that I may exist.

The billions of humans before me, who built on knowledge over millennia such that we may have a working and functioning society, with less death/disease and greater quality of life than ever before. (We would be literally nothing without cultural evolution - hardly more, behaviourally, than apes. Look around you, at even the smallest details, and appreciate the sum total of toil, discovery and ingenuity that has come before you to form this)

The luck of where I was born, for giving me opportunities that many never contemplate. The first quote in The Great Gatsby comes to mind: "Just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had.”

My parents and family, for their self-sacrifice in nurturing me well and giving me the best shot at life.


Being agnostic/atheist doesn't mean you're not appreciative. I am so thankful for my luck and opportunities that I get emotional over it. Thinking about this amazing, complex, wonderfully unfathomable world... I reflect madami about the miracle of my life madami now than I ever did.

I don't think Atheists are thankful for anyone. I kinda imagine they're like "I'm alive and good stuff happens to me sometimes...awesome."
